It adds sparkle to the table, it’s festive, and it taste amazing. With sweet and tart combination, this is one interesting snack you’ll be praised for by your guests!

Cranberries are tart. When you bite into it, it plops open with tartness exploding in your mouth. Coating it with sugar balances that tartness of the cranberries making it a delicious snack or you can use it to garnish your drink like I did in my cranberry margarita.
These taste both sweet and tart making it a great snack to eat it as it is or to garnish your drink or desserts. Skewer these bad boys in tooth pick or for more festive look use rosemary stick and serve. It’s a great idea for pick-me-up-and-eat snack. Using rosemary as skewers adds to the look of it and makes it a great stirrer for your cocktails and margaritas.
Sugared Cranberries Ingredients
All you need is 3 ingredients, that’s it!
Fresh Cranberries – You get better results with fresh cranberries. The sugar sticks to the berries well if it’s fresh. Frozen cranberries don’t work well in this recipe.
Sugar – Use granulated white sugar.
Water – soaking cranberries is important step to help all the sugar stick to the berries. Plain tap water is been used in the recipe. If you want to add a little more deliciousness to these sugar coated cranberries, use orange juice in place of tap water.
How To Make Sugared Cranberries
We start with fresh cranberries. Rinse cranberries in colander under tap water. Keep aside.
Next we make simple syrup to soak the cranberries into it. To make syrup, combine half cup of water with ½ cup of sugar in sauce pan. Bring water to boil, keep stirring and continue to boil until sugar is completely dissolved in water.
Stir in cranberries into the sauce pan. Make sure all the cranberries are completely coated in syrup.
Using slotted spoon remove the cranberries from sauce pan into a wire rack or tray and let them dry for about an hour.
Pro-Tip : Do not rush. Let the coating on the cranberries dry completely. Use a wire rack so the cranberries do not have their bottom still soggy and wet later.
After an hour, cranberries will be dry but sticky with the simple syrup coating on it. Fill up a bowl with granulated white sugar. Take few cranberries at a time and drop them in sugar.
Roll to ensure every cranberry is coated evenly in sugar. Shake off excess sugar and remove it on to a tray to dry for about an hour. Repeat the process for all cranberries.
When completely dried store in air tight containers.
How Long Does Sugared Cranberries Last
These last for about a week in air tight containers in fridge. But these are best when used within 2 days. If you store longer, sugar will start weaping.
How To Use Sugared Cranberries
Use it with cocktails and mocktails as garnish or as stirrer. This cranberry margarita with sugared cranberries looks sparkly and so festive!
Use it as a topping for your desserts, like cakes and pies.
Use it as snack. Serve as it is or skewer in tooth picks and serve.
