Why this recipe works
- These no-bake desserts need 3 basic ingredients – fresh strawberries, melted chocolate, and toppings of your choice.
- It’s simple, easy to make, and makes a great addition to a dessert table.
- Depending on the occasion and your mood decorate the strawberries. If you plan to make these during the holidays, decorate them with holiday sprinkles, and crushed pretzels.
Ingredients
Strawberries – Choose ripe large-sized strawberries. It makes it easy to dip in melted chocolate compared to tiny ones.
Melting Chocolate – Use melting chocolate wafers or premium melting chocolate bars. If using chocolate bars chop it into tiny bits and melt it in a microwave or on a stovetop (double boiler) with ⅛ teaspoon coconut oil. Coconut oil will help thin down melted chocolate making it easy to dip the strawberries.
Toppings – Chocolate-dipped strawberries are great on their own, to make it more fun and attractive use toppings of your choice.
- Crushed nuts – pistachios, walnuts.
- Melted chocolate drizzle.
- Desiccated coconut.
- Heart-shaped sprinkles chocolate sprinkles or holiday sprinkles.
- Mini chocolate chips.
Step-by-step Instructions
Prep Strawberries
It’s so important to choose the BEST strawberries. Pick ripe but firm strawberries that are sweet to taste. It’s also crucial to select bigger strawberries. Large strawberries make it easy to dip in melted chocolate and give room for any decoration. Leave the green stem on top. It’s easy to work with strawberries with the green stem on it.
Do not use frozen strawberries.
Step 1: Don’t skip washing fresh strawberries in water.
Step 2: Dry the strawberries using a paper towel. Make sure the green stem is dry as well.
Step 3: Using a microwave or double boiler melt chocolate until smooth and runny. Use a small and wide open bowl to easily dip the berries.
Step 4: Whisk well until the chocolate is melted fully. Do not overheat the chocolate, it will clump.
Step 5: Dip completely dry strawberries in melted chocolate. Scrap off excess chocolate at the tip of the bowl.
If serving it plain, leave the strawberries to set on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 6: Add toppings while the chocolate coating is still wet. To add chocolate drizzle decoration, allow the chocolate coating to set completely, then drizzle it with melted chocolate and allow it to set.
You can make white chocolate-covered strawberries using white melted chocolate.
Best served it on the same day.
Storage
Best to make and serve it on the same day. Leave it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. These will stay good at room temperature for as long as 10 -12 hours. Just leave them in a cool, dry place uncovered, away from sunlight or heat.
If you want to store longer, coat strawberries in melted chocolate and leave it in the fridge for 1 to 2 days. Technically these stay good as long as the berries are fresh. Do not freeze strawberries dipped in chocolate.
Tips
- Pick firm, ripe, and sweet red all-the-way-up strawberries.
- Wash strawberries to get rid of the debris. Dry them well.
- Use premium quality melting (baking) chocolate. Melting chocolate disks are best, then melt well. If you can’t get a melting chocolate wafer or disk, use melting chocolate bars.
- Melt chocolate until 90% melted. Keep stirring to melt the rest of the chocolate chunks in the residue heat. Do not overheat chocolate.
- If melted chocolate is too thick, thin it down by adding about ½ teaspoon of coconut oil. You want smooth, thin consistency melted chocolate for dipping.
- If you are rolling the berries with nuts or sprinkles, do it when the chocolate coating is still wet. If you are drizzling with melted chocolate decoration, allow coated chocolate to set completely then drizzle.
Recipe FAQs
Using the best and highest-quality ingredients is very important. You can use both dark chocolate and white chocolate. Use the pink or red chocolate wafers that will be apt for Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Store chocolate-dipped strawberries in air-tight containers with a piece of parchment paper between each layer for not more than a day. But remember cold temperatures may cause chocolate on the strawberries to sweat. This is always best the same day it’s made.
If you make it a day in advance, store it with care in the refrigerator. Choose an airtight container with a tight lid. Lay a paper towel at the bottom and sprinkle some baking soda on top. Lay another paper towel on top to absorb extra moisture.
Place the strawberries on top of the paper towel and cover the container.
