Ingredients

all ingredients for blueberry lemonade recipe
  1. Blueberries – fresh summer blueberries are best. To use frozen berry first thaw in the fridge before use. If you can’t find fresh blueberries, use Blueberry Preserve. Stir the preserve with lemon juice, and simple syrup and serve.
  2. Herb garnish (optional) – garnish with fresh mint leaves or fresh basil leaves.
  3. Lemon juice – use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the lemonade recipe. Bottled juice won’t taste the same.
  4. To make it for an adult? Spike your drink with vodka or tequila.

Try 5 minutes blueberry frozen yogurt this summer, it’s refreshing and easy to make.

Step-by-step instructions

Start by making blueberry simple syrup. Simple syrup is an equal portion of sugar and water heated up until the sugar dissolves creating a syrup.

Step 1: In a saucepan heat an equal ratio of water and sugar. Add in fresh blueberries. Bring to boil and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Step 2: Keep mashing the berries with the back of the spoon as it cooks.

Step 3: You should have a slightly thick syrupy mix. Remove from heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes.

Step 4: Strain the syrup using a fine mesh sieve.

Step 5: Squeeze out all the juices from the berries.

Step 6: Pretty pink blueberry simple syrup is ready. Pop it into the fridge until it’s chilled.

Into a pitcher add chilled blueberry simple syrup, pour in freshly squeezed lemon juice, and loads of ice.

Stir well. Pour into serving glasses filled with ice cubes, a few fresh blueberries, and lemon slices.

        Serve immediately.

        Make using the blueberry preserve

If you can’t get fresh blueberries, you can use blueberry preserves from the supermarket.

        1. First, make a simple syrup with equal parts of water and sugar. Bring it to a boil and let it cook until all the sugar is dissolved.
        2. Reduce heat and stir in 1 cup blueberry preserve. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes until well combined.
        3. Remove from heat, let the syrup cool down a bit. Refrigerate the blueberry syrup until completely chilled.
        4. Into a pitcher pour chilled blueberry syrup. Squeeze fresh lemon juice and throw in loads of ice.
        5. Pour immediately into serving glasses filled with ice and a few lemon slices. Enjoy!

Tips to make best blueberry lemonade

        1. Chill blueberry simple syrup for a couple of hours or overnight before serving.
        2. Although puree of raw blueberries can be used to make lemonade, I highly recommend cooking blueberries briefly, it extracts the flavor and color from it.
        3. For added flavors, muddle fresh mint or fresh basil leaves and add them to the drink.
        4. For adult-style lemonade, spike it up with some vodka or tequila.
