Why does this recipe work?
- It’s very refreshing and a perfect thirst-quencher.
- Very little prep work.
- Easy to customize and make it your own. Add fresh peaches, fresh mango, or fresh strawberries to make fruity iced tea. Iced strawberry tea is one of my favorite drinks.
- Make ahead and store in the fridge for up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
- Tip: If you plan to store iced tea for many days, add a pinch of baking soda to boiling water before adding it to tea bags. This will help the tea from turning into a funky taste by removing the bitterness in the tea.
Ingredients
Tea: If you like a strong tea taste add more tea bags for a stronger flavor. Avoid steeping longer than 15 minutes or the tea will turn bitter. You can use black tea bags or green tea bags.
- Black tea is commonly brewed at 90°C for 3-5 minutes.
- Green tea is usually brewed at 70°C for 2-3 minutes.
Tea is always a great idea, as a chilled refreshing drink or warm soothing drink. A warm lemon ginger tea is a great homemade remedy for sore throat. When lemon is available in abundance make the most of it. Here’s a suggestion, try this simple lemon pudding recipe to use the fresh lemons.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Bring 1 quart of water to boil. Add about 5 to 8 black tea bags (or green tea bags) into a glass pitcher. Pour boiling water into the pitcher with tea bags.
Tip: If you plan to store iced tea for many days, add a pinch of baking soda to boiling water before adding it to tea bags. This will help the tea from turning into a funky taste by removing the bitterness in the tea.
Step 2: Let tea bags steep in hot water for about 3-5 minutes for black tea and 2-3 minutes for green tea. Note: Do NOT steep tea any longer than that. The tea will turn bitter.
Step 3: Remove and discard tea bags from the pitcher.
Step 4: Pour freshly squeezed lemon juice into the tea pitcher.
Step 5: Pour raw honey into the glass pitcher. Stir the tea mix well. Taste and adjust if it needs more sweetness by adding more honey. Chill tea in the fridge for a few hours.
Step 6: When ready to serve, pour into a glass filled with ice cubes and lemon slices, and serve immediately.
Tips
- Use good quality tea to make the best-iced tea.
- Black tea and green tea work best. Feel free to use other tea blends of your choice.
- Using tea bags makes steeping easy.
- Add seasoned fresh fruits to make fruity teas such as peach iced tea, mango tea, or Iced strawberry tea.
- Use a heat-proof glass pitcher for steeping tea. It’s easy to steep and store (chill) tea.
- For stronger flavored tea, use more tea bags. Some prefer to steep tea longer for strong flavors, steeping for a longer time will turn tea bitter.
- Feel free to adjust the sweetness of honey as per your taste preference.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, they do. The caffeine content in iced tea depends on various factors such as the type of tea used, brewing time, and the concentration of the tea itself.
Delicate flavored iced tea contains roughly about 30 to 50 milligrams of caffeine per 16 oz serving.
Many teas have caffeine which causes you to urinate frequently. However, the caffeine content in tea (especially green tea) is very low. So drinking normal amounts – 3 to 5 cups a day is unlikely to cause dehydration. Drinking a lot of it may cause dehydration, so drink nominal amounts.

I am generally fond of iced tea. My preference is always with some citrus flavor. This combination of honey and lemon in the iced tea is absolutely inviting and I am definitely making this for myself.
