What is infused water?

Usually referred to as fruit-infused water or fruit-flavored water, it is water infused with fresh fruits, vegetables, and fresh herbs all stirred in water and left to infuse for a few hours for flavors and taste to seep in.

  1. Water – tap water or bottled water. You can use sparkling water too.
  2. Fruits – citrus fruits are the best for infusing water with vitamins and nutrients. Lemon or lime slices, orange slices, apple slices, diced kiwi, pomegranate seeds, mango cubes, watermelon cubes, pineapple chunks, sliced grapefruit, fresh berries – sliced strawberries, blueberries, blackberries
  3. Vegetables – cucumber slices.
  4. Herbs – fresh mint leaves, fresh basil leaves, fresh rosemary sprigs, fresh thyme sprigs
  5. Spices – thin slices of ginger, and cinnamon sticks add savory flavor to water.

How to make

  1. Rinse the fruits and vegetables.
  2. I used lemon, orange, strawberry, cucumber, and fresh mint. Use any combination you prefer.
  3. Slice lemon and oranges into thin slices. Dice strawberries. Slice cucumber lengthwise, into thin strips. Tear mint leaves for it to infuse faster and for a stronger flavor.
  4. Add it to a pitcher. Fill a pitcher with water of your choice.
  5. Serve chilled with additional fruit slices and ice. Drink it throughout the day.
  6. It’s best to drink and finish this detox water the day you make it within 12 hours at room temperature.
  7. Keep the pitcher in the fridge if you want to stretch for more than 12 hours. Make sure to consume within 24 hours. Do not keep it longer than that, fruits will begin to go bad.

Tip: A good thumb rule is to infuse for 2 hours at room temperature or for 3-4 hours in the fridge to achieve the potent flavor of the water. If you want stronger fruity and tangy flavors, infuse it overnight in the fridge.

Alternatively, hydrate with fresh homemade fruit juices – watermelon juice and pineapple juice.

Why drink fruit-infused water?

  1. Drinking adequate water is very crucial. It keeps the body hydrated and aids in metabolism and proper functioning of vital organs.
  2. With detox water, you will start enjoying the water as it’s infused with a fruity, herbal taste.
  3. Infused detox water does help you boost your mood!
  4. Minerals and vitamins get absorbed properly in your body.
  5. Drinking plenty of water makes you feel “full”, and makes you eat less food aiding in weight loss.
  6. Helps flush out toxins from your body.
  7. Reduces fatigue and keeps the brain sharp.
