How to make banana mug cake (with step-by-step tutorial)

- Peel the skin off ripe banana. Mash it really well.
- Now add in all the wet ingredients. Add to mashed banana milk, melted butter, 1 lightly beaten egg and vanilla extract.
- Whisk everything together.
- Time for dry ingredients. Add flour, brown sugar, baking powder, pinch of salt, cinnamon powder.
- Mix until well combined.
- Transfer the cake mix into individual servings mugs greased with oil or butter. Fill up the mugs ¾ full. Throw in some choco chips and walnuts on top.
- Place the mug into the microwave and cook on HIGH for about 60 seconds to 90 seconds.
- Just before serving, top with banana slices, brown sugar-melted butter glaze, Nutella, Whipped cream, ice cream, toasted nuts, sea salt sprinkled on top, or maple syrup or honey drizzled on top.
We recommend eating immediately, while it’s still WARM!
Can I Make Ahead?
A recipe that needs 3 minutes or less time for prep and 1 minute in microwave does not really need a make ahead label. You can whip it up in less than 5 minutes. We recommend you whip up a batch fresh as and when needed.
Tips To Make The Best Mug Cake
- Use wide mug that helps the cake rise while cooking. You need the size of the mug little bigger than the quantity of the cake mix, giving the cake enough room to rise.
- Ensure you whisk well using fork. Fork helps get to the bottom of the mug (you can use mug directly to whisk all ingredients) and mix all ingredients thoroughly ensuring no lumps are left behind. Lumps can interfere with the cooking of the cake.
- Every microwave is unique. Know your microwave. Adjust the time according to your microwave accordingly. Mug cake is ready when tooth pick inserted at the center of the cake comes out clean or it’s firm when you touch but still can press into it a bit.
- Do NOT OVERCOOK mug cake.
- Let it cool a bit before you dig in.
- Indulge with your favorite toppings. It can be Nutella, whipped cream, toasted nuts, ice cream or brown sugar-melted butter-glaze.
