Chocolate mug cake recipe literally needs 1 minute in microwave! One minute is all it takes to make moist, fudgy last minute dessert that’s perfect for one or two servings!

If you are looking for last minute dessert, this recipe is all you need. It’s the easiest and fastest dessert that you can make in a minute. Simply whisk all the ingredients directly in the microwavable mug and place inside the microwave.

Why Should You Try This Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe?

  1. By far the easiest and fastest chocolate dessert you’ll ever make!
  2. You can make dessert in a minute!
  3. You’ll likely have all the pantry ingredients ready.
  4. If you are looking for last minute Valentine’s Day treat for you and your loved one, this recipe is what you need. Recipe can be easily doubled to make two mug cakes.
  5. Why end up eating the whole cake or tray of brownie? Satisfy your sudden craving with this single serving dessert.
  6. Frost the cake however you wish. Chocolate frosting, peanut butter frosting, frost it with Nutella. Endless way to frost and serve. Feeling fancy? Top with scoop of ice cream and drizzle chocolate syrup and caramel syrup.

Ingredients Needed

Here’s the list of ingredients you need to make this epic mug cake –

All Purpose Flour – all-purpose plain flour is what you need. Make sure to sift flour before you use. If you use self-rising flour, you should leave out baking powder from the recipe; also your cake will turn our very moist.

Cocoa Powder – make sure to use unsweetened best quality cocoa powder. Cheap ones won’t make best tasting mug cake.

White Sugar – white granulated sugar gives better texture. Do not use powdered or caster sugar. If you want to make healthier mug cake – swap white granulated sugar with natural sweeteners like honey or even apple sauce.

Baking Powder – baking powder will make the mug cake rise turning it into light, airy and moist cake.

Pinch Of Salt – a pinch of salt added to any sweet dish elevates the taste.

Vanilla Extract – use pure vanilla extract. Vanilla bean paste may not work best for this cake.

Oil – flavor less oils works best. Vegetable oil or canola oil or melted butter can be used.

Milk – I’d like to use whole milk as it gives richer taste. You can use skim milk or any other kinds of milk – for diary free option use almond milk or soy milk.

Semi Sweet Choco Chips – ensure to use the baking purpose choco chips. Feel free to swap semi sweet choco chips with peanut butter choco chips, butternut scotch or chocolate or chocolate chunks.

How To Make In 4 easy Steps (Step-By-Step Recipe)

Step 1: Grease your microwaveable mug with cooking oil, alternatively you can spray it with oil.

Step 2: Sift together all purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder directly into the mug. Add in rest of the ingredients – granulated white sugar, oil, vanilla extract and milk.

Step 3: Whisk everything until smooth.  Sprinkle few choco chips on tip, this step is optional, but I highly recommend you don’t skip it.

Note: if the cake mix is too thick add extra teaspoon of milk to adjust the consistency to make it into smooth mix.

Step 4: Cook in microwave for about a minute.

Note: All microwaves are different. Keep close eye on the mug cake. You want to cook until the center is just set. Start with 60 seconds and if center is still sticky, place it back into microwave and cook for addition 10 to 15 seconds. Keep checking for the center to be just set, when tooth pick tester comes out dry and clean, remove mug from the microwave.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this chocolate mug cake right away, it’s going to be fudgy, warm and delicious! Serve it as it is or you can add your favorite toppings or frost it to your choice.

Vanilla Ice cream – vanilla ice cream compliments best with warm fudgy desserts. A scoop of ice cream topped over warm mug cake with chocolate syrup and caramel syrup drizzle is utterly delicious way to serve.

Powdered Sugar – simplest but the most popular way to decorate and serve any chocolate cake is with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Powdered sugar sprinkle with chocolate syrup drizzled on top of warm cake is our second favorite way to serve. Don’t forget to add sprig of mint leaves. Adds freshness and brightens the cake.

Fresh Berries – Health and indulgence can go hand in hand. Fresh berries like strawberries, raspberries can be added on top.

Whipped Cream – A dollop of whipped cream and a dash of cocoa powder or chocolate vermicellis or choco chips works great.  Try it.

Peanut Butter – Chocolate and peanut butter are best combinations. Add a drizzle of peanut butter on top.

Can I Make It Keto?

Yes, you can. You’ll have to swap a couple of ingredients from the recipe with keto friendly ingredients.

Swap these –

  • All-purpose flour with almond flour
  • Diary cow’s milk with soy milk
  • And use erythritol instead of granulated white sugar.

Can I Make It Diary Free?

To make diary free mug cake replace diary milk with non diary milk like soy milk or almond milk. Do not use any butter, use only vegetable oil. And use diary free choco chips.

How Can I Make This Mug Cake Vegan?

Using vegan milk like almond milk or soy milk and replacing choco chops with vegan friendly choco chips will turn this cake into vegan friendly cake. Try it. It’s easy swap.
