Variations
You can add a few more ingredients to change/enhance the taste of the treat according to your taste preference.
Additions:
- A pinch of salt always adds taste to any sweet treat.
- Splash of lemon juice.
- Powdered sugar for added sweetness.
Substitutions:
- Substitute vanilla ice cream with coconut milk or coconut cream.
- Whipped cream is another great substitute for vanilla ice cream (remember official Dole Whip is vegan so if you want to stick to vegan use vegan Whip).
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Combine pineapple juice, frozen pineapple, and vanilla ice cream (vegan ice cream if you want to stick to the official Disney theme park).
Step 2: Blend until creamy. A powerful blender makes all the difference in making a creamy, fluff, soft serve-like dole whip recipe.
Step 3: Blend until smooth creamy texture. Pro-tip: Using frozen pineapple chunks and chilled juice will make the dole whip a soft serve-like consistency.
Step 4: Transfer into a pipping bag attached to the star nozzle.
Pipe into serving jars. Serve immediately. It’s frosty, cooling, and a great way to beat summer heat like this Orange Julius recipe.
Tips
- High powdered blender – A high-power blender like Vitamix or Ninja helps to make a smooth, creamy dole whip.
- Soft serve consistency – If the mix is thin or runny, freeze the mix for a few hours until it’s frozen and has soft serve consistency.
- Swirl it like Disney – if you want that Disney experience with iconic Disney dole whip swirl, freeze the mix for 30 minutes, and then transfer it to a piping bag with a 1M star nozzle.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, the official Disney recipe is vegan. Vegan vanilla ice cream is used in the recipe along with frozen pineapple chunks and pineapple juice.
Use a dairy-free vanilla ice cream or substitute with thick coconut milk(¼ to ½ cup).
Yes, you can but I wouldn’t recommend it. Make it a couple of hours ahead just enough time to set. Making it ahead can change it’s texture. If left for longer in a freezer, it’ll turn hard and will lose its creamy texture. If left in the refrigerator for longer, it will turn into liquid.
Best serve pineapple dole whip within an hour once it’s blended and frozen until soft serve consistency.
