Why this cinnamon sugar pretzel recipe works

Pretzels are great party snack that is quick and easy to make for a crowd. This sweet-salty snack is perfect party, movie night, or as a holiday gift.

Be it chocolate-coated pretzels, pretzels Hershey kisses, sweet and spicy Chex mix, or Halloween pretzels, are easy to make and a definite crowd pleaser! If you love savory pretzels, then you must try soft pretzel bites which are a great appetizer served with cheese sauce.

Salty pretzels dunked in warm cinnamon sugar and finally drizzled with sweet white chocolate take pretzel snacks to a whole new level. You have a perfect combination of salt-sweet-spice-and-chocolate all together.

You only need 5 ingredients and very little prep work.

It’s very addictive.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need-

ingredients for cinnamon pretzels twists

All the ingredient’s exact measurements are mentioned in the recipe card below.

Ingredients notes-

  1. Pretzels: both mini pretzel twists and pretzel sticks can be used. If you have pretzels snaps that works too.
  2. Cinnamon powder: adds warm flavor to the party snacks.
  3. Sugar: use fine granular white sugar.
  4. Oil: neutral oil like sunflower oil or canola oil works best.
  5. Cinnamon sugar: not a separate ingredient. It’s a mix of cinnamon powder and sugar. Don’t get confused about it as an extra ingredient.
  6. White chocolate: use baking white chocolate bark or white candy melts. Use a microwave or double boiler to melt white chocolate.

Ingredients additions and substitutions

Pretzels – use any hard or soft pretzels. Hard pretzel twists, pretzel snaps, or pretzel sticks can be used. Soft pretzels can be used, with homemade pretzel bites or pretzel twists may be used.

Cinnamon powder – use a mix of cinnamon powder, a hint of nutmeg powder, and a dash of ginger powder.

White granular sugar can be substituted with granular brown sugar.

Butter may be used instead of oil. Butter adds a rich taste to the snack. Use salted butter for a salty treat.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Add oil(or melted butter), cinnamon powder, and sugar in a bowl and whisk.

Step 6: Spread it in a single layer.

Step 7: Bake uncovered in a preheated oven at  300F for about 20-25 minutes. For pretzels to bake evenly, remove the baking tray from the oven twice to stir the pretzels in between the baking times using a heatproof silicon spatula or wooden spatula.

Step 8: Remove the tray from the oven and allow it to cool completely.

Step 9: Melt white chocolate with a ¼ teaspoon of coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Transfer melted white chocolate into piping bags. Drizzle it over cooled pretzels.

Step 10: Allow the chocolate drizzle to set at room temperature. Will take about 10-15 minutes.

Step 11: Serve immediately. Or transfer to an airtight container for later.

Ways to serve

This salty sweet party snack can be served as an appetizer or as dessert. You can also pack these in plastic bags with cute ribbons tied to them and gift them to friends and family during the holiday season.

While it’s enjoyed as it is, you can also serve it along with dipping sauce like Christmas cookie dip.

Useful tips

  1. Make sure to coat pretzels in cinnamon sugar evenly.
  2. While melting white chocolate use ¼ teaspoon of coconut oil to help melt chocolate smooth and shiny.
  3. Always line the baking tray with parchment paper or silicon mat, it prevents pretzels from sticking to the tray.
  4. Spread cinnamon sugar pretzels in a single layer, to ensure even baking.
  5. Don’t rush. Don’t get tempted to speed up the cooking process by bumping up the oven temperature, may risk pretzels burning.
  6. For pretzels to bake evenly, remove the baking tray from the oven twice to stir the pretzels in between the baking times using a heatproof silicon spatula or wooden spatula.

Storing info

Once baked, drizzle melted white chocolate over it. Allow the chocolate to set fully and store it in a clean dry airtight container for up to a week.
