    Why Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels?

    1. Last minute treats – Everybody, I mean everybody needs to have a go-to recipe for holiday treats! No matter how well and advance you plan, there always (mostly) comes a time when you feel you have so much to do this holiday season or for a party and you want to have atleast one treat that can give you a breather.  These pretzels are great last minute treats.
    2. Totally Customizable – You can use any pretzel of your choice and there are many ways you can flavor it. Dip it in white chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate or even caramel. Sprinkle with holiday sprinkles, toasted and crushed almonds or peanuts, candy sugar, crushed peppermint candy. Customize it for different occasions like Valentines day, St.Patricks Day, Halloween or Easter.
    3. Minimal Ingredients – You probably got all ingredients needed in your pantry. If not, it’s holiday season, stock up your pantry with those chocolate melts and sprinkles. Use pretzels twists or rods, dip in melted chocolate, and go crazy with the sprinkles! That’s it!
    4. Minimal Effort – What could be easier than chocolate covered pretzel rods or twists? Melt, dip, sprinkle and set it to set. That’s all. A small batch of it will take about 10 minutes of effort, most of it is the fun task of dipping pretzels in melted chocolate and sprinkling with your favorite topping.
    5. Make Ahead – These are great make ahead holiday gift. You can store these in air tight boxes for 2 weeks.  Once the chocolate sets and hardens, these dark or white chocolate covered pretzels can be boxed for gifts, arranged in glass jars and served at cocktail parties.

What Kind Of Chocolate is Best For Dipping Pretzels?

Chocolate candy melts are best option for dipping pretzels. You can use dark chocolate and white chocolate melts for pretzels.  It’s easy to work with melting wafers. You can get smooth melted chocolate that’s apt for dipping and coating.

If Ghirardelli Melting Wafers isn’t available near you, use choco chips instead and other melting chocolate. You may want to add little shortening to help melt choco chips or other melting chocolate to help it melt smooth.

How To Melt Chocolate for Dipping?

Chocolate candy melts are best as it’s convenient and easy to melt. Best melt chocolate candy in microwave safe bowl. Use microwave safe tall glass to melt chocolate for dipping pretzel rods.

Microwave chocolate candy melts for 30 seconds interval, and keep stirring after every 30 seconds.

If using chocolate chips for melting consider using ½ teaspoon of coconut oil(or any other shortening)  to help thin down the chocolate.

    Prep Baking Sheet –

Line up baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. This ensures pretzels dipped in chocolate do not stick as they dry. And it’s easier to remove dipped pretzels without breaking it.

    Melt Chocolate –

White chocolate or dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate pairs best with pretzels.

Once you decided what chocolate you want to melt, place in separate bowls and melt it in microwave for 30 seconds interval.  Stir every time you remove chocolate from microwave to help melt evenly and smooth.  Chocolate candy melts are best to use, it melts smooth and easy to work with it.

If you aren’t using microwave, you want to melt chocolate in a double-boiler.

Instead of candy melts, you can use choco chips or other melting chocolate.

    Dipping Pretzels –

Dip pretzels one at a time. Remove dipped pretzels from chocolate using a fork or three pronged tool. Let the excess drip off before laying chocolate dipped pretzels on to baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    Let it Set –

Now the hardest part, wait until the chocolate coating sets on pretzels. Let the pretzels harden at room temperature. You can even place in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.

Great tips for making them look good as well as taste good. It takes some care and effort to simply sprinkle the decorations on instead of dip the entire treat in the sprinkles!!
