Lassi is best during summer and healthy too. This drink is so easy to make, nothing will stop you from relishing this drink through out the mango season.

Lassi is a yogurt based drink that is very popular dish from Punjab. It is a blend of yogurt, water, spices and some times fruits in it. During summers lassi is consumed in every house hold almost everyday.

Traditional lassi is a salted/savory drink which is flavored with roasted cumin. Sweet lassi however contains sugar or fruits in it.
Mango Lassi is a sweet drink which has yogurt, milk, mango and sugar(if needed) and flavored with cardamom powder. Lassi is usually served thick. It’s a rich drink, essentially like a smoothie made of mango and yogurt being the main ingredients.
To beat the summer heat make these delicious mango lassi. It’s very cooling in nature and best during hot Indian summers. The sweetness of the mangoes and the coolness of the yogurt makes it a favorite summer drink for all.

For flavoring I added cardamom powder and saffron strands. You can skip it if you don’t like, but I recommend not to skip. Because that’s the essential in lassi, the aromatic cardamom flavor and saffron adds to the color as well. The aroma of cardamom powder makes this mango lassi so delicious!

How To Make Mango Lassi Recipe

Lassi’s are easy to make. Just blend all ingredients and serve. For mango lassi recipe, you’ll need good quality ripe mangoes. Chop mangoes and take the flesh out. Blend it along with yogurt, cardamom powder, chilled milk(optional), ice cubes, sugar and saffron strands(which is optional)!

You don’t need to add sugar if the mangoes are sweet. However do add sugar if your mangoes aren’t sweet enough. After all this is sweet lassi, it should have the sweet taste. That’s it. Then it’s all about chilling the lassi. Yes ALWAYS serve mango lassi chilled!

And how good a lassi served in earthen clay pots?

The BEST!

Yes, serving lassi in clay pots adds to the taste. The taste of earth! When earthen pots are chilled it adds some extra flavors to mango lassi and you’ll definitely appreciate the earthiness in the lassi.

If you don’t have earthen pot, recommend you to serve this wonderful cooling summer drink in glass or stainless steel cups. No plastics please!

Ingredients

  • 2 Alphonso Mango (fully ripe)
  • 1 cup Thick Yogurt
  • ¼ cup Milk (optional)
  • 2 teaspoon Sugar skip this if your mangoes have enough sweetness
  • 2 teaspoon Cardamom powder
  • Few Ice Cubes

For garnish -

  • Cardamom powder - generous pinch
  • Saffron strands - few

Instructions

  • Peel and chop the mangoes. To a blender add chopped mangoes, yogurt, milk, sugar(if adding), cardamom powder and pulse everything till smooth.
  • Add ice cubes and pulse again. Pour into serving glasses, garnish with cardamom powder and saffron strands and serve chilled.
  • You can refridgerate it for only a few hours, don't forget to consume it the same day.

Notes

  1. You can use rose water too for flavoring. But I don't like the flavor of rose water in my lassi.
  2. Garnish with chopped nuts like pistachios, almonds.

Love the clay glasses that you served the lassi in. The clay definitely adds more flavor to this summer favorite. My boys love mango lassi and I make full use of fresh mangoes in summer.
