Why Should You Try This Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Recipe?

    • Its gluten free, vegan and a best choice for healthy snack. Great for entertaining.
    • Hummus is made from scratch, from homemade roasted peppers and perfectly cooked chickpeas from dried beans. Because homemade hummus is ALWAYS THE BEST!
    • If you haven’t made hummus at home, this is the right time to start. You won’t regret it and I promise you will NEVER go back to store back stuff ever again!
    • You can try the classic hummus recipe or try this pretty colored beet hummus , its not just the pretty color, but the taste of the hummus also is great! Or go ahead and give this roasted pepper hummus, it’s got a kick to it along with some amazing flavors.
    • This creamy, smooth hummus taste delicious, so much better with everything homemade.
    • The freshness in the hummus with homemade fresh ingredients in unbeatable! Not too oily, not too drippy, but only packed with fresh and amazing flavors!
    • It’s great served as sides. So many options to serve it with. Don’t forget pita bread. And my personal favorite, loads of raw veggies on the side with a big bowl of hummus. It can be served with nachos, as delicious sandwich spread, use it in salad dressings. We love it with this Buddha bowl.

    Ingredients Needed

Everything needed for the hummus is shown in below ingredients photo:

ingredients for roasted red pepper hummus

Chickpeas: Tried cooking dried beans directly in instant pot pressure cooker and we had perfectly cooked chickpeas ready in less than an hour. Fresh and cheap too compared to canned chickpeas. While you can use canned chickpeas for convenience purpose, we do recommend you try this instant pot chickpeas recipe to make your own chickpeas that can be used in numerous recipes

Roasted Red Peppers: note we roasted red peppers at home and used it in the recipe. It’s so easy to make your own roasted peppers, you’ll wonder why have been picking jarred peppers all this while. Give it a try. For best results we recommend you roasted peppers on fire, either on gas stove or on BBQ. Or you could even roast peppers in oven like the way we did for this recipe.

Once peppers are roasted on all sides, remove from heat and let it sit for a minute. Then peel the black skin off.

Dice peppers roughly and use it to make hummus.

Garlic: MUST in any hummus recipe. But it’s easy to overwhelm hummus with garlic taste if you add too much. For my taste preference I would use anything between 2 to 4 garlic cloves. Beyond that I feel it overwhelms the hummus

Tahini: another MUST in any hummus recipe. Hummus made without tahini is compromising taste. Use HIGH QUALITY tahini. Cheaper ones would ruin the taste of hummus.

Tip: if tahini from the fridge is thick, add a teaspoon or more hot water to tahini and stir it until its creamier (not runny). This will make creamier lighter textured hummus.

Spices: hummus tastes better with spices in it. I usually add cumin powder and smoked paprika for this pepper hummus recipe.

Seasoning: season with salt as per taste.

Lemon Juice: freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Olive oil: last and the most important ingredients in hummus, good quality olive oil. Your hummus will taste only as good the olive oil is. Use best quality for better results.

How To Make Roasted Red Pepper Hummus From Scratch

    To Roast The Red Peppers:

On open fire (stove top or BBQ) – set the stove on high, and place whole pepper directly on the open flame. Using tongs keep turning it to roast evenly on all sides. The skin will blacken and start blistering. Blacken skin on all sides but ensure you don’t burn the peppers.

In the oven – for even cooking, I prefer to cut peppers into half and roast in oven. Slice peppers vertically into half, remove the stem and seeds out. Place it on baking tray lined with aluminium foil and roast in pre-heated oven at 400 F for about 20-25 minutes, until the skin blackens.

    How To Cook Chickpeas:

Use your instant pot to turn dried chickpeas to perfectly cooked beans that you can use in hummus or any other dish. Canned chickpeas – BE GONE! Learn how to make your own perfectly cooked chickpeas.

    To Make Red Pepper Hummus:

Use powerful blender to make smooth, creamy hummus.

Add all ingredients – chickpeas, roasted peppers, garlic, tahini, salt, cumin powder, smoked paprika, lemon juice and half of olive oil. Start blending. For easy blending, add water if required, add very little. You do not want to make runny hummus.  Slowly pour remaining olive oil while blending and blend until smooth.

Serve it with pita bread, spread it in sandwich, serve it as dip with raw vegetables, use in salad dressings.
