Why you’ll love the jalapeno popper dip recipe
- A fabulous party appetizer that is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. Don’t worry it’s not blazing hot, jalapenos impart a mild heat to the cream cheese dip, even kids would love it. If you love spicy kick add more jalapenos and keep those seeds on.
- It’s quick, easy to make, and insanely delicious! Every scoopable bite will make you want to go for more. It’s very addictive!
- Scoop this low-carb savory dip with crackers, celery sticks, and veggie sticks. Add this warm, creamy, cheesy, spicy, savory dip to your game-day menu.
- A dip that is sure to transform any mediocre or boring appetizer into the best appetizer of your life!
Ingredients
- Cream cheese – the base of the dip. Use full-fat cream cheese for the best results.
- Sour cream – sour cream helps balance some of the richness and fattiness of cream cheese with its tan flavor.
- Mayonnaise – for a silky-smooth dip.
- Garlic powder – for flavor. You can also use finely minced fresh garlic. For extra flavor, you can use a dash of Cajun seasoning.
- Fresh jalapenos – I prefer to use fresh jalapenos over canned stuff. Fresh jalapenos have the best flavor. Keep the seeds and membrane on for a spicier dip, remove the seeds and membrane for a milder version. Also feel free to add more jalapenos for extra kick, flavor, and taste. If you can’t get fresh jalapenos use canned jalapenos diced into small pieces. Fresh jalapenos can be replaced with pickled jalapenos.
- Green onion – for extra flavor boost and taste.
- Crumbled bacon – because bacon makes everything better. Cut bacon slices into small cubes and cook in a skillet until crispy and browned.
- Cheese – if you have access to a Mexican cheese blend definitely use that. Or you can use a mix of sharp cheddar and Parmesan or sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Always buy cheese block and grate it yourself for best results.
All the ingredient’s exact measurements are mentioned in the recipe card below.
How to make
Preheat oven to 350F.
Prep jalapenos, green onion, and bacon. Cut fresh jalapenos lengthwise into half. Using a small spoon scoop off the seeds and membrane inside, and discard it. Dice jalapenos.
**PLEASE NOTE** Touching jalapenos without gloves can cause a burning sensation if you have sensitive skin. The oil from jalapenos or any hot peppers will remain on your skin for a long time and it can HURT if it comes in contact with your face or eyes.
Always wear rubber gloves before handling jalapenos or any other hot peppers.
I did not wear gloves, but I made sure I washed my hands thoroughly after I had dealt with the hot peppers. I made sure I did not touch my eyes or face for the whole day.
Finely slice green onion.
Chop bacon slices into small cubes, fry in a pan until crispy and browned. Remove from pan, set aside. Alternatively, you can cook bacon slices in a skillet until browned on both sides. Remove from pan, give it a couple of minutes to cool then crumble.
In a bowl add softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, and garlic powder. Mix until combined.
Fold in diced jalapenos, sliced green onion, crispy bacon, grated parmesan, and sharp cheddar cheese (reserve some cheese to be added for topping).
Spread into a baking dish or casserole dish. Spread evenly.
Sprinkle all the remaining cheese and a few bacon bits along with green onion.
Bake in preheated oven at 350F for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly.
Serve warm with crackers, celery sticks, tortilla chips, bread, or veggie sticks.

Common questions
I always prefer the flavor and taste of fresh jalapenos and I recommend fresh jalapenos. If you don’t have access to fresh jalapenos, use canned jalapenos. It works too.
Don’t worry it’s not blazing hot; jalapenos impart a mild heat to the cream cheese dip. I suggest removing the seeds and membranes from jalapenos before using them.
If you love spicy kick add more jalapenos and keep those seeds on.
Yes, you can prep it ahead of time and bake it later. Prep and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and bake it when you need it.
Yes, you can freeze it before you bake it. Once baked I won’t recommend storing it in the freezer as the texture won’t be the same. The dip will be noticeably grainy.
Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. Reheat in a microwave-safe bowl at 30 seconds intervals at medium powder until just warm. Do not reheat on high powder, the cheese will separate.
