    This cherry smoothie is made with only 4 ingredients and it’s packed with nutrients. Frozen cherries, vanilla Greek yogurt, pomegranate juice and banana blend into pretty pink delicious is great for breakfast and snacks.

    Load up the smoothie with all fresh berries with mixed berry smoothie recipe or use that best quality watermelon into frozen watermelon smoothie. Don’t forget pineapple smoothie.

    About frozen cherry smoothie recipe

    1. Is there a better breakfast choice than smoothie? Especially on a busy weekday morning.

    2. This smoothie is pretty to look and very delicious drink. Kids get excited all the time when I make colorful pretty smoothie.

    3. It takes only 5 minutes to whip up a batch of smoothie using 4 ingredients.

    4. Easy to customize. You can customize it pretty much the way you like.

    5. This frozen cherry smoothie is delicious energy breakfast that will fill you up and keep you going through the day.

    6. The texture of a good smoothie is thick and creamy and you easily achieve it with frozen fruits.

    7. Frozen cherries and banana is my favorite combination for this smoothie. Love how thick this frozen cherry smoothie is. 

    Ingredients you’ll need

    Here’s what you’ll need-

    all ingredients for cherry smoothie
    • 1.5 cup frozen dark red pitted cherries
    • 1 banana
    • ¾ cup vanilla Greek yogurt (flavoured yogurt)
    • 1 cup pomegranate juice (or apple juice), chilled

    Ingredients additions & substitutions

    Dark red cherries are slightly tart and sweet making it best for making smoothie. If you can’t find dar red cherries, use whatever cherries are available. The color of smoothie will be red or pink depending on the cherry used.

    Vanilla Greek yogurt can be substituted with plain Greek yogurt and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 to 2 teaspoon honey (depending on preferred sweetness).

    Use any of the below mentioned fruit juices for liquid component.

    • Pomegranate juice
    • Apple juice
    • Cranberry juice
    • White grape juice

    Some of the extra additions to cherry smoothie-

    • Spinach or kale
    • Mango
    • Blueberry
    • Strawberry
    • Pineapple
    • Peach
    • Flax seeds
    • Chia seeds
    • Protein powder

    How to make cherry smoothie

    • Place frozen pitted cherries, vanilla Greek yogurt, pomegranate juice and banana into a blender.
    • Pulse and blend ingredients until smooth.
    • Pour into serving glass and serve immediately.

    Top tips for cherry smoothie

    1. At least one fruit should be frozen to get right consistency smoothie which is thick and pourable. Pit cherries and freeze it. Banana don’t have to be frozen.
    2. Use frozen cherries and frozen banana to make super thick smoothie.
    3. Use powerful blender like Vitamix to make it nice and smooth.
    4. Right amount of liquid is important to get thick pourable consistency. Fruit juices, milk is best liquid component. Pineapple juice, apple juice, white grape juice, cranberry juice or milk can be used.
    5. Taste enhancers like vanilla extract or almond extract can be used for added flavor and taste. Add one to two tablespoon honey for added sweetness.
    6. Pack in nutrients in the smoothie with chia seeds, flax seeds or hemp seeds.
    7. Always serve smoothie right away. The longer you wait, the icy parts starts separating and float to the top leaving down the juice sink down the glass.

    FAQS

    Smoothie is watery?

    Amount of liquid used in making smoothie will determine the consistency of it. Do not increase juice more than mentioned amounts.

    What can I substitute for vanilla Greek yogurt?

    Vanilla Greek yogurt can be substituted with plain Greek yogurt and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 to 2 teaspoon honey (depending on preferred sweetness).

    Can I use frozen banana?

    Yes you can, but with frozen cherries and frozen banana the smoothie consistency will be very thick. You might want to adjust the amount of liquids to make thick pourable smoothie. Increase liquid (pomegranate juice) from 1 cup to 1 ¼ or 1 ½ cups depending on how thick smoothie you like.

    You have fresh cherries and you forget to pit and freeze it? No worries. Simply use fresh cherries, pit it and use it directly to make smoothie with handful of ice cubes to make it thick, frosty texture.

    Can I make it vegan?

    Yes you can. Substitute Greek yogurt with nut based milk like chilled almond milk or oats milk.

    Spinach or kale
    Mango
    Blueberry
    Strawberry
    Pineapple
    Peach
    Flax seeds
    Chia seeds

    Can cherry smoothie be made ahead and stored?

    I wouldn’t recommend you to make ahead and store. It only takes 5 minutes in the blender to have this smoothie ready to drink.
    As smoothie rests it starts separating and float to the top leaving down the juice sink down the glass. Also storing smoothie for a day or two in the fridge will tend to change the color of smoothie. Bright pink or red color will turn pale and loose it freshness.
    Always make it and serve immediately.
