Apple snickers salad is sweet and tart dessert salad made with vanilla pudding, cool whip, crisp Granny smith apple, loads of tasty snickers candy bar that is topped with generous drizzle of caramel sauce.

This creamy salad is a dessert but if you like sweet dish as sides, go ahead and serve it for side dish. Salads that can be a dessert are something that you should not miss trying! Like the cherry fluff salad, this snickers salad is layered dessert that’s perfect for holiday gatherings and parties when you want to impress your guests!

About candy bar salad

  • It’s great for summer potlucks, family get together and a great dessert for holiday dinner table.
  • This may not be traditional salad recipe and definitely not healthy version of salad but tastes so good!

Ingredients you’ll need

Here’s what you’ll need-

  • 1 (3.4oz or 100grams) packet vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1 cup whole milk (or 2% milk)
  • 2 cups cool whip, thawed
  • 4 Granny Smith apple, chopped
  • 6 Snickers bar, cut into bite sized pieces
  • ½ cup salted caramel sauce

How to make apple snickers salad

  1. In a large bowl mix together vanilla instant pudding mix and milk.
  2. Fold in cool whip.
  3. Add chopped apple, snickers bar and gently mix into the pudding mix.
  4. Let the salad sit in the fridge for an hour before topping it with caramel sauce topping.
  5. Once it had chilled, scoop salad into serving dish, top with few chopped apples and snicker pieces and then drizzle with caramel sauce. Enjoy as dessert or if you like sweet sides serve it as side dish.

Variations of snickers salad

This candy bar salad is amazing with Granny Smith apples. It doesn’t stop there. You can create fun variations of snickers salad with other fresh fruits as well.

  1. Try it as it is written with apples
  2. Try with different flavors of instant pudding mix like butterscotch instant pudding, caramel pudding, or chocolate pudding.
  3. Including green grapes sliced into halves into the salad.
  4. Candy bar salad can be made not only with snickers candy but other leftover Halloween candy bars like Twix, Milky way, Rolos, 3 Musketers.
  5. Change things up by adding extra ingredients likes crushed pretzels, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, toffee bits, toasted peanuts.
  6. Make banana pudding style snickers salad by replacing vanilla instant pudding mix with banana pudding mix and use perfectly ripe bananas in place of apples. Serve with crushed vanilla wafers on top to give it banana pudding style salad.
  7. Try tropical style snickers salad by using banana pudding mix, crushed pineapple, sliced strawberries, sliced banana and sweetened shredded coconut on top.

What are the best apples to use?

Granny Smith apples are crisp and tart. You want apple with tartness to help balance the sweetness.  You can use other apples like Fuji, Gala, Red delicious, Cortland apples, Pink Lady, Melrose.

Can I use other candy bars?

Snickers candy bar are great but you can also use other candy bars like Twix, Milky way, Rolos, 3 Musketers.

Can I make the salad ahead?

Though you can make snickers salad a day ahead of time, I highly recommend you make it and enjoy it the same day, within few hours of making while apples are still crisp and fresh.
Having said that, yes you can make this salad ahead of time.

You will need to treat the apples to prevent it from oxidation and turning brown, remember treating apples may change the flavor and taste of apples. You can do this by tossing fresh chopped apples with 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice for 5 minutes, drain, rinse and pat dry.

Other ways to treat apples so they don’t oxidize are soaking it in ginger ale or 7 up for about 5 minutes, then drain rinse and pat dry.

Once treated the salad can be stored for 2 days.

How to store left over salad?

Store leftover snickers salad covered in fridge for up to 2 days. Storing might make the salad a bit watery from the apples. Before serving stir it up and serve.
