Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need-

  • 4 Granny Smith’s apples

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
all ingredients for applesauce

Apples– use a mix of Granny Smith’s and Honey crisp apples. Pick apples that are naturally sweet so no added sugar is needed. I like a mix of any of these – Granny Smith’s apples, Gala, Honey crisp, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Ambrosia apples.

Cinnamon powder– to enhance the flavor and taste.

Fresh lemon juice– use freshly squeezed lemon juice. Lemon juice will keep apples from discoloring. Avoid bottled lemon juice.

  1. Peel, core, and dice apples. I used Granny Smith’s and Honey crisp apples.

  4. Select “HIGH PRESSURE” with the timer set to 8 minutes. Note: Instant Pot takes time to build pressure before it begins cooking. Consider the extra time that is needed while cooking.
  5. Once cooking time is finished QUICK RELEASE pressure immediately. Wait for all pressure to be released before opening the lid.

Common questions

What apples to use?

Use a mix of Granny Smith’s and Honey crisp apples. Pick apples that are naturally sweet so no added sugar is needed. I like a mix of any of these – Granny Smith’s apples, Gala, Honey crisp, Fuji, Golden Delicious, and Ambrosia apples.

It’s up to you to peel apple or to leave it on. If you don’t mind smoother applesauce leave the peel. Apples with peel will result in chunkier applesauce, which tastes good too.

To make in crock pot – add all ingredients to crock pot. Cook on low for 4-6 hours with occasional stirring. Mash it to your desired consistency.

Can I freeze instant pot applesauce?
