Buttery lemon garlic shrimp recipe
- Quick and easy to make.
- You can’t beat 10 minutes to cook up a fast and healthy dinner.
- The sauce needs a special mention. I call it sensational-sauce!
- It’s packed with flavors, fresh zestiness from lemon, unbeatable flavors of garlic, and the richness of butter makes it truly mind-boggling!
- Easy to customize the flavors. A simple seasoning of salt and pepper always works or use a bit more flavors by using seasoning salt. A bit of red chili flakes gives that extra heat. You can also use Italian seasoning, Cajun Seasoning, Creole seasoning, Jerk Seasoning, and Curry Powder.
Ingredients needed for garlic lemon shrimp recipe
Here’s what you’ll need-
Ingredients notes:
- Shrimp – Fresh shrimp is better. Use large shrimps. Peel and devein shrimp, you can choose to leave the tail on.
- Butter – Salted or unsalted will work. Use as much or as little as you like. Butter adds richness to the sauce and makes shrimp.
- Olive oil & butter – A mix of olive oil and butter is my go-to combo.
- Garlic – Use fresh garlic for the best flavor and taste.
- Lemon – use freshly squeezed lemon juice. Don’t go for bottled stuff.
- Salt and pepper – Use seasoning as per taste.
- Red chili flakes – For extra heat add red chili flakes.
- Parsley – use lots of it! Adds bright, freshness and herby flavor to the dish. The color contrast of bright green parsley against pretty pink/red shrimp is so appetizing!
Ingredients variations and substitutions
You can change the seasoning depending on what you love.
- If you want to jazz up the flavor, add a few tablespoons of dry white wine. It enhances flavor.
- For a rich saucy shrimp, use only butter.
- For extra heat, add more red chili flakes do the trick.
- For other flavor choices, try Italian seasoning, Cajun Seasoning, Creole seasoning, Jerk Seasoning, and Curry Powder.
Step-by-step instructions
There are two ways to cook lemon garlic shrimp recipe. You can bake it in oven or cook in skillet on stove top.
Here’s the stove top method.
Step 1 – Clean and devein shrimps, pat the shrimps dry. Melt butter and olive oil in a skillet.
Step 2: Sauté finely minced garlic until fragrant. Do not brown garlic.
Step 3: Add cleaned shrimp to the pan.
Step 4: Add the seasonings – salt, freshly ground pepper, and red chili flakes. Stir well.
Step 5: Let it cook for about 2 to 3 minutes or until the shrimp is bright pink.
Step 6: Flip and cook shrimp for another 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 7: Turn off the heat. Add butter and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir to melt butter. Do not overcook shrimp. You want to keep shrimp delicate, and juicy not rubbery and gummy. Check for seasoning. Adjust salt and pepper if it needs extra seasoning.
Step 8: Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve saucy shrimp with pasta or over a bed of rice.
Useful tips
- Use extra butter for rich saucy shrimp.
- Leave the tail on or off as per your personal choice.
- Do not overcook shrimp.
- Add a dash of white wine to the skillet at the end, it gives extra flavor and taste. This is an optional step.
- For extra heat/spice add more red chili flakes.
- You can also use Italian seasoning, Cajun Seasoning, Creole seasoning, Jerk Seasoning, and Curry Powder.

📋15 Minutes Lemon Garlic Shrimp Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ lbs large or extra large shrimps (or prawns) peeled and deveined
- 2+ 2 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic finely chopped/minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon water (if needed) can use 2 tablespoon dry white wine instead

Instructions
- Clean and de-vein shrimps if they aren’t already cleaned. Leave the tail on if you prefer. Pat the shrimp dry.
- Melt butter and olive oil in a pan.
- Sauté finely minced garlic in the butter-olive oil mix. I always prefer to sauté garlic in oil, as it releases all its wonderful flavors into the oil. Do not brown garlic. Simply sauté until the garlic is fragrant. Alternatively – use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic.
- Add cleaned shrimps to the pan.
- Add salt, pepper, and red chili flakes.
- Stir well.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until shrimp is pink in color.
- Flip and cook the shrimp for another minute.
- Turn off the heat. Add butter and lemon juice. Stir to melt butter.
- Do not overcook shrimp.
- Adjust salt and pepper if it needs extra seasoning.
- Garnish with fresh parsley.
- Serve saucy shrimp with pasta or over a bed of rice.
