Ingredients

For Vanilla Panna Cotta Layer

  • ¾ cup fresh cream
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 7 gram gelatin
  • 6 teaspoon cold water
  • cup sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla bean paste

For Chocolate Panna Cotta Layer

  • ¾ cup cream
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 7 grams gelatin
  • 6 teaspoon water
  • 5 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 ounce dark chocolate

Instructions

  • You'll need to make vanilla panna cotta and chocolate panna cotta seperately, one at a time. Once one of the layers is set, you'll begin making the other layer.

To Make Vanilla Panna Cotta Layer

  • In a non-stick or heavy bottomed pan heat milk, cream and sugar on low flame until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • In another bowl add gelatin to 1 teaspoon water place it on stove and stir it until all the gelatin dissolves. Alternatively use microwave to melt gelatin.
  • Add the gelatin mixture to cream-milk mixture and stir well with a whisk until the mixture blends well. Stir in vanilla bean paste (can use pure vanilla extract instead of paste).
  • Spoon the panna cotta mixture into dessert glasses or bowls and set it in freezer for about 2-3 hours. Wait until the first layer of panna is completely set before you begin with second layer.

To Make Chocolate Panna Cotta Layer

  • In a non-stick or heavy bottomed pan heat milk, cream and sugar on low flame until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • In another bowl add gelatin to 1 teaspoon water place it on stove and stir it until all the gelatin dissolves. Alternatively use microwave to melt gelatin.
  • Add the gelatin mixture to cream-milk mixture and stir well with a whisk until the mixture blends well.
  • While the mix is hot, add in dark chocolate and whisk well. The heat in the cream should melt the chocolate.
  • Carefully spoon the chocolate panna cotta mixture over the set vanilla layer without disturbing the layer. Set it in freezer for about 2-3 hours.
  • Let the mix cool down little bit. If you pour in hot chocolate panna cotta over set vanilla layer, it will break the set panna cotta. Be careful.
  • Finally top with some fresh strawberries and mint leaves and serve chilled.

Notes

  • If you do not want to wait to make layered panna cotta, simply make one type of panna cotta in separate cups.
  • Chocolate chips will melts only if panna cotta mix if hot. If doubtful, melt chocolate chips separately and then add to the panna cotta mix.
  • Fresh berries or homemade berry sauce (or compost) can be used for toppings.
  • Always serve panna cotta chilled.
