homemade pumpkin spice latte

You can now make better than Starbucks pumpkin spice latte at home in less than 10 minutes!  A perfect beverage to celebrate the arrival of fall and all things pumpkin!

Arrival of fall immediately gets Starbucks to announce their release of pumpkin spice latte in their stores and people begin to line up to devour this fall favorite beverage.

But the good news is you don’t have to line up in front of Starbucks to enjoy a glass of your favorite latte. Now you can easily make it at home with ingredients that I bet most of it are already in your pantry. The recipe only takes a few minutes to whip up a glass of pumpkin latte.

A cup of latte on chill fall evening is great to warm the soul.  It makes a great holiday drink with all the warm spices. This recipe is amazing both hot and cold latte. Depending on the weather outside, choose how you want your latte to be served.

The recipe can be doubled or tripled easily. If you are having friends over feel free to multiple the recipe to make a big pot of latte.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

Pumpkin spice latte is a delectable drink made with smooth and rich pumpkin puree (homemade puree is BEST according to me), milk (use any type of milk), sugar, vanilla and the fall favorite spice – pumpkin pie spice.

The benefits of making your own pumpkin spice latte at home is it gives you full control on the recipe. You can substitute dairy milk with dairy-free options like almond milk or soy milk for healthier option!

Adjust the sweetness according to your taste. Make it as sweeter as you want. With all that you also could save a few bucks with homemade version of this fall latte.

The fragrance of warm spices in the milk wafting in the house is so good! You don’t want that scent to leave the house. It’s HEAVENLY!

Pumpkin Spice Latte Ingredients

Below are the list of ingredients you will need –

  • 2% milk (for diary free options use almond milk or soy milk)
  • Pure pumpkin puree
  • Sugar (or any other sugar like coconut sugar, stevia)
  • Pumpkin pie spice blend
  • Vanilla extract
  • Strong brewed coffee or hot espresso
  • Whipped cream
  • Cinnamon Powder and Nutmeg Powder (For sprinkling)

How To Make Pumpkin Spice Latte

To make your own latte you’ll need to have pumpkin puree  and pumpkin pie spice ready.

Rest of the ingredients I bet you already have it at home.  In a matter of 10 minutes you can whip up copycat of Starbucks pumpkin spice latte.

You can use freshly brewed coffee or coffee made with instant coffee granules. Both work really well. I’m a person who always drinks freshly brewed coffee so I am going to suggest you to use that in my recipe.

Star heating up milk, pure pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, sugar in a sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk milk to blend everything and bring it to steaming hot. DO NOT BOIL IT.

Note : 2% milk is our choice. Use dairy free milk like coconut milk, almond milk or even soy milk.

The amount of sugar you want to add completely depends on your preference. Add more sugar if you like your latte on the sweeter side or reduce it if you don’t like sweet.

Homemade pumpkin puree is fresh and has real pumpkin taste. We love it over canned pumpkin puree.

You’ll find some recipes heating up everything along with brewed coffee. I don’t do that. I bring pumpkin flavored milk to steaming hot and then mix in my hot coffee and pumpkin milk together.

It let’s you control how much coffee I want to add to my latte this way. I like strong coffee flavors in my latte while my husband likes it medium.

By not adding coffee into the milk while heating I can change and serve the latte as per personal choices. That’s just me.  You go ahead and mix in brewed coffee as well to the sauce pan and heat it up with the milk and other ingredients.

Into serving cups pour freshly brewed coffee, pumpkin milk. Fill up the cups ¾th. Pipe on some whipped cream to garnish.

Sprinkle on to either pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon and nutmeg powder on top.

Serve immediately.

Can Pumpkin Spice Latte be Made Ahead?

No. This latte doesn’t reheat very well. So I recommend you to use up all the latte soon as you make. Make it fresh and serve immediately.

How To Make KETO Pumpkin Spice Latte

Substitute 2% milk with almond milk and sugar with golden erythritol allulose.

Variations on How To Serve This Fall Latte

Best way to serve pumpkin latte is hot with generous topping on whipped cream on top and sprinkle on pumpkin pie spice.

Serve it cold if the weather is too hot outside.

Not a fan of whipped cream? Use marshmallows for topping. Marshmallow pumpkin latte is a great fall drink.

To celebrate holiday mood, go ahead sprinkle some peppermint candy (crushed) on top as well.

Tips For Pumpkin Latte Recipe

  1. This recipe multiples very well. You can double it or triple it easily.
  2. To make Starbucks copycat latte you want to use 2% milk (dairy). But feel free to substitute diary milk with non-diary options like almond milk, coconut milk or soy milk. It may not taste exactly like Starbucks latte with diary free milk, but it’s definitely delicious!
  3. The amount of sweetener mentioned in recipe works great for my taste buds. Feel free to adjust the amount of sweetener as per your preference. You can replace sugar with other sugars like stevia or coconut sugar.
  4. The amount of pumpkin puree mentioned gives you subtle flavors of pumpkin in the latte. You can make a strong pumpkin flavored latte by increasing the amount of puree added to the milk.

Can’t wait to get my pumpkin fix this season! This looks like an amazing way to start (won’t do Starbucks because I use coconut milk and theirs has carrageenan in – super excited to find an alternative).

There’s a definite reason that Starbucks markets the heck out of their all-star PSL every fall – it’s delicious and people LOVE it! How wonderful to find this recipe so I can make my own at home, just the way I like it! I’m typing this with my regular morning cup of strong black coffee beside me, and suddenly that beloved plain ol’ coffee seems kinda boring – I’m totally craving a PSL! Luckily, I actually do have both the pumpkin puree and the spice already on hand, so I can totally whip one up for my afternoon treat! Yay! 🙂
