Kathi Roll or Kati Roll is my favorite roll.I have always had rolls in restaurants and small food joints, and they taste yummy. I thought of making this roll for my daughter who is a fussy eater and would take hours to-gether to eat just one chapathi. She always asks for jam for chapathis(not just chapathis, for dosa, idlis, and everything,..) I wanted to make eating chapathi(or roti) fun for my daughter and also include veggies in it so she would eat it. Rolls are best ideas to make kids eat veggies rolled inside chappathis. So I made these potato kati rolls and included some little tomato sauce and cheese to make it interesting and yummy for kids. These Kathi Rolls are not just for kids, I had about 3 of these yummy rolls along with my daughter and my hubby LOVED these rolls. 🙂
SO here’s step wise recipe for potato kathi rolls
Recipe inspired from here
Wheat Flour – 1 cup
Salt – 1 tspn
Water – as required to make dough
Potatoes – 4 nos
Green chutney – 3 tbspn
Cumin powder – 1 tspn
Tumeric powder – 1/4 tspn
Tomato sauce – 2 tbspn
Cheese – 3 tbspn
Onion – 1 finely chopped
For Green chutney-
Mint Leaves – 1 cup
Corainder leaves – 1/2 cup
Green chillies – 2 no
Salt – 1 tspn
Method of preparation:-
To make chapathis-
Prepare the roti dough by adding water or warm milk to wheat flour(salt added). Keep aside for half an hour. After half and hour, knead again for few mins and make balls, flatten with roti roll and place it on hot tawa and cook on both side until they are 3/4 cooked(Do not fully cook the chapathis/rotis as we will put it back on tawa after making the roll). Keep rotis aside.
TO make green chutney-
Pick mint and corainder leaves and wash them. Place them in a blender along with green chillies and salt and blend it into smooth paste. Add 1-2 tspn of water if required to blend.
Cook potatoes in pressure cooker for 2 whistles. Remove from pressure cooker, peel the skin and chop them into small bite size pieces. Heat oil in a kadai, and add cooked chopped potatoes and mix, next add cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix until all the ingredients are well combined. remove from stove and keep aside.
To make the roll-
Take the rotis, smear green chutney at the bottom of the chapathis as shown. Place 1 tbspn of potato filling on top of the chutney, drizzle some tomato sauce, add few pieces of chopped onions and finally sprinkle some grated cheese. (For some extra bit of nutritional value, I added a piece of raw carrot inside the roll. You can grate the carrot and add it too, if kids find it hard to bite them)
Roll it as shown in picture. Now place the roll carefully on the tawa and toast it on all sides for 1-2 mins.
Repeate with rest of the chapathis.
Potato Kathi Roll is ready. They are good to relish as it is. You can add some accomplishments like veggie salad, sliced veggies(carrots, cucumbers,..)
